CMS Updates ICD-10 Value Sets for 2017 Electronic Clinical Quality Reporting
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and National Library of Medicine Friday published an addendum to the 2016 electronic clinical quality measure specifications. The addendum updates the ICD-10 value sets for electronic reporting of eCQMs for the 2017 performance year in the Hospital Inpatient Quality Reporting Program, Medicare Electronic Health Record Incentive Program and Merit-based Incentive Payment System.

FDA Alerts Providers to Safety Risks with Battery-Powered Mobile Medical Carts
The Food and Drug Administration recently warned healthcare facilities of potential safety risks associated with battery-powered mobile medical carts, including reports of explosion, fires, smoking or overheating of equipment that required hospital evacuations associated with the batteries in the carts. CMS Issues Fire-Safety Survey and Certification Memo
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services recently issued a survey and certification memo stating that healthcare facilities may use the 2013 edition of the Fire Safety Evaluation System (FSES) to demonstrate compliance with fire-safety requirements.

CMS Issues EHR Attestation Worksheets, eCQM Reporting Guidance
CMS has released worksheets to help eligible hospitals and professionals in Modified Stage 2 of the Medicare Electronic Health Records Incentive Program log their meaningful use measures for calendar year 2016. CMS also issued additional guidance to help eligible hospitals in the Medicare EHR Incentive Program and Hospital Inpatient Quality Reporting Program submit 2016 electronic clinical quality measures for the “device, order not done” field. Eligible hospitals and professionals must attest to meaningful use of EHRs in 2016 to avoid a payment adjustment in 2018. The 2016 attestation period for the Medicare EHR Incentive Program opened January 3 and runs through February 28.

Remembering Sam Raudenbush: Past AHRMM President, Leadership Award Recipient, and Bellwether Class of 2009  
Bellwether League Inc. reports that Samuel G. Raudenbush, Bellwether Class of 2009, passed away on the morning of his 85th birthday, Friday, December 23, mere days after being diagnosed with lung cancer.
Raudenbush exemplified leadership through his contributions to AHRMM and his dedication to advancing the healthcare supply chain field. 
Raudenbush was instrumental in the formation of two local AHRMM Chapters, the Southeastern and Northeastern Pennsylvania chapters (now SEPAC, Inc.). He served on the AHRMM Board and was president of the Board in 1988-1989. In 1990, AHRMM named Raudenbush the recipient of the George R. Gossett Leadership Award, the highest honor bestowed by the Association.
In 2009, Raudenbush was inducted in to the Bellwether League Inc. Hall of Fame for Healthcare Supply Chain Leadership.
