Joint Commission Changes Survey/Review Notification Policy
After reviewing feedback from its accredited hospitals, the Joint Commission has made changes to its survey/review notification process to include email notifications effective as of March 6. The changes affect the organization’s notification process for its three survey/review activities: announced events, short-notice events and unannounced events.

FDA Class I Recall; Physio-Control Inc. LIFEPAK 1000 Defibrillator
The FDA has identified The LIFEPAK 1000 defibrillator as a Class I recall, the most serious type of recall. Use of these devices may cause serious injuries or death. The affected product part numbers are 320371500XX, and there are 133,330 affected serial numbers.

CMS Issues MOON FAQs for Hospitals As Requirement Takes Effect
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has issued answers to Frequently Asked Questions for hospitals implementing the Medicare Outpatient Observation Notice, including guidance on completing the free-text field that explains why the patient is not an inpatient. Bundled payments provide a single payment for a defined episode of care that is shared among the caregivers involved in the delivery of care, with the risk shifting primarily to hospitals. The logic is that this will promote better care coordination among the various providers, while reducing wide variations in both the cost of care and how care is delivered.
