Zika Virus May be Linked to Brain Disease
Brazilian scientists studying 151 patients with symptoms similar to those caused by Zika, may have found a link between Zika and acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM), which is similar to multiple sclerosis.
Maria Lucia Brito Ferreira, a doctor at Restoration Hospital in Recife, Brazil, wrote in an abstract of her findings, which will be presented at the American Academy of Neurology's 68th Annual Meeting in Vancouver April 15-21.
U.S. health officials have previously expressed concern of Zika’s association to a different neurological condition known as Guillain-Barré syndrome. The impact of the Zika virus is wider than anticipated, but U.S. health officials plan to have the first vaccine candidate for the virus in September.

Reuters: Prices for Four Top-Selling Drugs More than Doubled over Five Years
Four of the nation’s top-selling drugs more than doubled in price over five years, while six others rose by more than 50%, according to a new analysis by Reuters. “Together, the price increases on drugs for arthritis, high cholesterol, asthma and other common problems added billions in costs for consumers, employers and government health programs,” the news agency reports. John Rother, executive director of the Campaign for Sustainable Rx Pricing, said, “This is further evidence that skyrocketing drug prices are more widespread than a few bad actors. When major drug companies hike prices on common prescription drugs, Americans suffer.” AHA is a supporter of the campaign, which seeks to foster a national dialogue on the pricing of high-cost drug therapies.
