The FDA is aware of data quality concerns around data submitted by manufacturers complying with the new UDI standard and data in the AccessGUDID - the publicly available version of the Global Unique Device Identification Database (GUDID). 

On August 29, this webinar will address these concerns by outlining the FDA's role in ensuring data quality. In addition, webinar viewers will have an opportunity to discuss current uses of UDI and AccessGUDID across the device lifecycle to identify opportunities for improvement in data consistency and usefulness based upon your user requirements.

Cadillac Tax: Legislation, which is scheduled to take effect in 2018, the PPACA's "Cadillac tax" is meant to reduce overall healthcare costs by encouraging employers to offer cost-effective health benefits. With the tax looming, many large employers are already scaling back the benefits they offer employees, causing the affected workers to be offered plans with higher deductibles and co-payments.

FDA Recall: Sterile drug products by Bella Pharmaceuticals due to lack of sterility assurance
The affected products include all lots distributed April 17, 2017, to August 10, 2017, remaining within expiry, and they would be packaged in a syringe, vial or eye dropper.

AHA Special Bulletin: CMS Proposes to Cancel, Scale Back Bundled Payment Models 
On Aug. 15, The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services proposed to cancel the cardiac and surgical hip and femur fracture treatment bundled payment models. These programs had been scheduled to begin Jan. 1, 2018. In addition, the agency proposed to scale back the Comprehensive Care for Joint Replacement model by giving certain participant hospitals a one-time option to choose whether to continue their participation. Meaningful use stage 3 requirements will become mandatory beginning January 2018. One of the standards requires the ability to automate data capture of product specific information to the patient record and transfer of that data. This paper will define the regulation and explore how a supply chain department can support their organization in meeting this aspect of the regulations. Read Susan's paper here.
