AHRMM and GS1 Free Webinar Series - December 1 & 8
This two-part webinar series will introduce you to the GS1 System of Standards and focus on Global Location Number (GLN) and Global Trade Item Number™ (GTIN®). The webinars will also give an overview of FDA Unique Device Identification (UDI) requirements for manufacturers and review GS1 Standards implementation roadmap for hospital providers to achieve a successful implementation.
Join the Learning UDI Community and Participate in New Work Groups
The Learning UDI Community (LUC) focuses on identifying issues that impact UDI adoption within the healthcare setting and establishing cross-functional work groups made up of subject matter experts and stakeholders. Join the community and contribute to work groups developing resources that accelerate UDI adoption.
Two LUC work groups have been recently approved by the LUC Steering Committee, and are seeking participants to join. Click on the work group name for a brief overview outlining the group's focus and objectives they will address.

HRSA Announces Zika Funding for Health Departments in Territories
The Health Resources and Services Administration plans to award about $17 million in Zika Response and Preparedness Act funds to health departments in Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and American Samoa. The funding will support activities to screen, identify, assess and follow up with infants and children born to Zika-positive mothers or infected after birth; build service delivery capacity; and implement family-to-family support services, the agency said.

CMS: $66.1 Million to Support Zika Prevention & Treatment Services
Last Wednesday, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services announced that territories, states and tribal organizations with active or local transmission of Zika virus can apply for a portion of $66.1 million in funding to prevent and treat health conditions related to the virus.

CMS Proposed Rule on Fire Safety for Certain Dialysis Facilities
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced a proposed rule to update Medicare fire protection guidelines for certain dialysis facilities to ensure that patients are protected from fire while receiving treatment in those facilities. The new proposed guidelines apply to all dialysis facilities that do not provide one or more exits at grade level from the treatment area level.

ONC Report to Congress Looks at Evolving Health IT Landscape
The Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology released its annual report to Congress on health IT progress, as required by the HITECH Act of 2009. The report notes that 96% of hospitals and 78% of physician offices used certified electronic health record technology in 2015, while only 9% and 17%, respectively, had at least a basic electronic health record in 2008.
