CMS Final Rule On Notice of Benefit and Payment Parameters for 2018
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services last Friday issued a final rule on the notice of benefit and payment parameters standards for health insurance issuers and the Health Insurance Marketplaces in 2018. The rule sets forth the payment parameters and provisions related to the risk-adjustment program; cost-sharing parameters and cost-sharing reductions; and user fees for federally-facilitated exchanges and state-based exchanges on the federal platform. Joint Commission's 2017 National Patient Safety Goals
The Joint Commission’s 2017 National Patient Safety Goals lays out distinct goals for ambulatory, behavioral health, critical access, home care and hospital facilities. Some of the goals touch on facility-related matters, such as using proven guidelines to prevent infection, improving alarm management and preventing patient falls.

Bellwether Class of 2017 Nominations – Deadline January 31, 2017
The Bellwether League Inc. invites nominations of innovative, pioneering and visionary professionals for the Bellwether Class of 2017 to be inducted into its Hall of Fame for Healthcare Supply Chain Leadership in October at the 10th Annual Bellwether Induction Dinner Event in Chicago.
Nominees represent five distinct categories: Education & Media, Supply Chain Management, Group Purchasing, Supplier and Consultant.
The deadline for nominations is Tuesday, January 31, 2017.

CMS Won’t Penalize Failure to Report PQRS Data Affected by Coding Change
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services will not apply 2017 or 2018 payment adjustments to any eligible professional or group practice that fails to satisfactorily report certain quality data to the Physician Quality Reporting System for fourth-quarter calendar year 2016 solely due to the impact of recent updates to the ICD-10 codes, the agency announced yesterday. President Signs 21st Century Cures Act
On December 13, President Obama signed into law the 21st Century Cures Act (H.R. 34), which includes a number of provisions important to hospitals and health systems. The 21st Century Cures Act signed by Obama also includes several health information technology provisions designed to improve electronic health records and EHR interoperability.

CMS Issues Guidance On Changes to Hospital Cost Report Worksheet
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services recently released new guidance on changes to hospital cost report worksheet S-10. Specifically, the agency has modified the instructions for line 20 of the worksheet to include the actual charge amounts for the entire facility, except physician and other professional services, that were determined in accordance with the hospital’s charity care criteria/policy and written off to charity care during this cost reporting period, regardless of when the services were provided. In addition, the worksheet and instructions now refer to the State Children’s Health Insurance Program as the Children’s Health Insurance Program.
